“God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:8-10 NLT
I don’t normally read the New Living Translation of the Bible but I have started to recently. I think I accidentally switched it from the NIV on my Bible app and I didn’t realize it. I read Ephesians 2:8-10 recently and I thought, I really like these verses. Then I thought, wait I know these verses. I had memorized the King James Version of Ephesians 2:8-10 a long time ago. I read the NLT version multiple times and I decided I really like this version. I feel like it is so much easier to understand.
I really like the part where it says “Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.” So many people feel they just have to do good things and they will get into heaven. Even more people feel they are not worthy of heaven because of horrible things they have done. God can save anyone. Salvation is a gift. You cannot earn salvation, you can only ask God for it.
Of course after we are saved we are called to act like Christ. This does not mean we will be perfect. This does not mean our lives will be perfect. We will still make mistakes but there is nothing we can do to separate us from God’s love. The two greatest commandments are to love God and love people. If we love God we should naturally love people. After we are given the gift of salvation we should share God’s love with others.
