There are some children’s book that make me wonder how easy it is to publish a children’s book.  I will think, I could write a much better book than this.  Although, I can’t draw at all so I’d need someone else to do the illustrations.  There are also many good children’s books; I often feel like there are good lessons to be learned from children’s books.

M.J. and I were reading Giraffes Can’t Dance and I think that is such a good book.  It teaches children (and adults) that it’s okay to be yourself.  It’s okay to be different.  If you can’t dance the same as everyone else you can make up your own dance.

“Listen to the swaying grass and listen to the trees.  To me the sweetest music is those branches in the breeze.  So imagine that the lovely moon is playing just for you- everything makes music if you really want it to.”-Giraffes Can’t Dance

I think this teaches such a beautiful lesson.  It’s okay to be different.  It’s okay to be yourself.  If you are yourself there will probably be some people who don’t like you.  If you try to pretend to be someone else there will still probably be people who don’t like you.  I’m not saying never try to improve yourself but don’t try to change the person you are to make people happy.

I sometimes which I was not so sensitive.  Of course it would probably be helpful if I was a little less sensitive but there are many positives of being a sensitive person.  I love helping people and want to help everyone I can.  Although, I sometimes get my feelings hurt too easily so that is probably a negative part of being sensitive.  However; I used to not like that I was a sensitive person (I guess I still don’t sometimes) but I have noticed there are many positive aspects of being sensitive.  I am a very caring person and it is pretty easy for me to have empathy for other people.  Because I am a naturally empathetic person I didn’t realize empathy doesn’t come naturally to a lot of people.

Don’t be afraid to be yourself.  Don’t be afraid to be different.  Make your own music.  Dance to your own song.  You are you.  You are awesome.

  1. God created us all to be different! To have different personalities, gifts, likes and dislikes, etc. And thank God He did! Think how boring it would be if we were all exactly the same…. Like robots! So l say, celebrate life, the way God meant us to! And find joy in all things, great and small! And in everything, give thanks! 😍💕
