I heard the song, Where is the Love? by the Black Eyed Peas the other day.  I’ve loved this song since I first heard it but I feel like it is a very fitting song for today.

“People killin’ people dyin’.  Children hurt can you hear them cryin’?  Can you practice what you preach?  And would you turn the other cheek?  Father, Father, Father, help us.  Send some guidance from above ‘cause people got me, got me questioning: Where is the love?”

While I was listening to this song I thought, yes, where is the love?  There seems to be so much division about everything today.  Why can’t we all just get along?  Both sides of the political spectrum are so hateful to each other.  How are we ever going to work together if we can’t even treat each other with respect?  People have to make everything single political today and it frustrates me.  How is the Corona virus political?  It has gotten to the point where I can’t even look at any political posts without getting stressed out.  People are so mean and hateful and it makes me so sad.  I don’t even want to vote because I feel like there are no good choices and it is mostly based on which politician has the most money.  But, if I don’t vote I will feel guilty; but I really don’t think voting matters that much.

I think it is so important to show love to everyone.  More important than who you vote for, or really more important than even voting at all.   Especially if we are Christians it is more important to show people Jesus’ love than focus on being “American.”  We should be Christians first and Americans second.  Although, politics are also very confusing to me.  Maybe, partly because I don’t pay that much attention because all the hate and division makes me sad.  I know I want to help people but I think no matter who I vote for I will never be able to help everyone in need.  I also feel like my political views are fairly moderate which also doesn’t seem to be allowed these days.  If you are not fully Republican or fully Democrat you’re a fraud.  I think this is ridiculous!  I know I’m not the only one who has moderate views.  Although there aren’t really any moderate politicians to vote for so I guess you just have to choose which one you kind of agree with more.

As Christians, I feel that no matter how we feel politically we should be loving to everyone.  If we don’t agree with the politicians we are still supposed to pray for them.  I know I’m not the only one who struggles with this.  Our relationship with Jesus should come before our political views.  And can we please all just get along?

“What is causing the quarrels and fights among you?  Don’t they come from the evil desires at war within you?  You want what you don’t have so you scheme and kill to get it.  You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them.  Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it.  And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong- you want only what will give you pleasure.”  James 4:1-3 NLT
