Have you ever felt like there’s something missing in your life?  Have you thought if you just had more money?  More friends?  More success? A partner to love?  A better house? Perfect children?  Have you thought you would be satisfied if you just had more?  I think a lot of people have felt like this, but if you have this mindset you are never satisfied.  No matter how much you have you keep wanting more.

“She’s so lucky, she’s a star.  But she cry, cry, cries in her lonely heart, thinking, if there’s nothing missing in my life then why do these tears come at night?” Lucky by Britney Spears

I love this song; it reminds me that being rich and famous does not make people happy.  Maybe you are not successful and are trying to fill the void.  Maybe you are successful and are still trying to fill the void.  There are so many things people try to fill the void with: drugs, alcohol, sex, work, money, technology, etc.  Many of these things make you feel better temporarily, but can often have negative effects.  Most people know that drug, alcohol, or sex addictions can be harmful, but thinking too much of money can also be harmful.  How much is enough?  If one person makes a million dollars a year, they might think, I am so successful until they meet someone who makes 2 million dollars a year.  Worldly things can make us temporarily happy, but we will never be completely satisfied.

“I think everybody should get rich and famous and do everything they ever dreamed of so they can see that’s not the answer.”- Jim Carrey

Having a loving relationship with Jesus can fill the void in your heart.  Of course, that doesn’t mean your life will be perfect on earth.  However; you will have a perfect life in heaven to look forward to.  All the good things in this life cannot even come close to what heaven will be like.  Trying to fill this void with other things will probably work temporarily, but not forever.  Jim Carrey has been in a lot of movies.  He is pretty famous and I’m guessing he’s probably rich, too.  He has realized being rich and famous did not make him happy.  I think a lot of people think having more of a certain thing will make them happy.  This is almost never the case.  Yes, if people are financial stable, they might have less stress, but if it gets to the point of greed, it is dangerous.  It is okay to have money as long as you don’t put it first in your life.  Money cannot make you happy.

Of course, people still have Depression, Anxiety, or other mood disorders.  Becoming a Christian does not heal the chemical imbalance in your brain.  I believe this is very important to mention.  Growing up I felt I was not a good Christian because I had Depression and Anxiety; this was not true.  Having Depression and Anxiety are not a sin, just like having Diabetes is not a sin.  When I started struggling with intrusive thoughts, I definitely thought they were a sin.  They are not a sin either.  Intrusive thoughts are thoughts that you DON’T want and you DON’T choose.  They can be extremely distressing, but they say nothing about you as a person.  You are not your thoughts.  One awesome thing about heaven is there will be no more diseases or disorders.  There won’t be any Depression, Anxiety, or Diabetes.   I can’t even comprehend what heaven will be like because it is going to be perfect.  We will have struggles in this world, but we can find joy in a relationship with Jesus.  Having a relationship with Jesus does not make our life perfect on earth, but it does make our life perfect in heaven.  No matter what you’ve been through, God loves you.  Don’t be afraid to accept His love.

“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me.  Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows.  But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 NLT
